When the saints came marching in Mylapore during the Arupathimoovar festival.

• I was one among the thousands to witness the procession of the Nayanmars (Saivite Saints) along with the idolx of Kapaleeswarar and Karpagambal, richly decorated amidst chanting of vedic mantras and the nadaswaram, on the occassion of th Panguni uttiram festival, at Chittiraikulam, Mylapore, Chennai, India. I became pious and happy and my heart was filled with peace.
• During the Aarupathimoovar festival held every year during March - April the bronze idols of 63 Nayanmars are carried in a procession of palanquins around the Kapaleeswarar temple.
• Baloons, hand made coconut shell violins, silk sarees, cotton sarees, fresh flowers and huge rangolis before the houses speak loudly of this annual festival. I always take an off from my work during this festival not just for religious reasons but I get the joy of being one among the crowd of devotees.
  
• Devotees and tourists had queued up at the 4 mada streets on the Arupathimoovar festival the 8th day of the 10 day long Brahmotsavam celebrations.
• When the poles are sunk, the pandals are put up and packets of pongal, pulliyodharai and glasses of neer more are distributed to the passersby all free like an Akshayapatra, a legendary vessel which never becomes empty. All these are prepared at the kitchens of the Kapaleeswara temple and the surrounding houses clearly bringing out the existence of community kitchens.
  

After the Nayanmar festival on the full moon day the devotees can witness the marriage of Kapaleeswarar and Karpagambal (Thirukalyanam). The darshan of Lord Kapaleeswara and Karpagambal is a divine experience that bestows mental peace, satisfaction and happiness on the devotees.
