Graphene, the thinnest material may replace silicon to make PCs faster.

  • Graphene, the new material is just one atom thick but stronger than diamond and conducts electricity 100 times faster than silicon in computer chips.
  • According to scientists, Graphene is the thinnest and strongest material known in the world till date.
  • Graphene is pure carbon just like diamond. It forms a six sided mesh of atoms and looks lile a honeycomb when observed under an electronic microscope.
  • Even though Graphene is a stong material it is as flexible as plastic and hence can be folded or rolled up like a scroll.
  • Potential Graphene application include touchscreens , solar cells, energy storage devices , mobiles and eventually high speed computer chips .
  • Replacing silicon, Graphene the basic electronic material in computer chips is a long way of far beyond the horizon.
  • Graphene was first discovered by scientist Geim, five years ago .
