How to keep your pet calm while moving?

  • Moving or shifting a house is not only a traumatic experience for human beings only but also for pets. During these times they need to be taken care of more and calmed. Here are a few tips as to how to go about it.
  • While moving household articles and furniture the doors of the house are generally left open and an anxious pet may try to escape. Further, there is a possibility of the pets getting injured. So it is advisable to keep the pets in a secured place outside or in a room inside the house and keep them engaged. 
  • Ensure that you pet has a collar or an identification tag tied to it with the name of the pet and your cell number mentioned on it. This will help to locate the pet easily in case of its loss.
  • Ensure that you leave the items like blankets and toys with which your pet is familiar as it gives a feeling of security.
  • Once you are ready to transport the pet to a new home place the pet in a pet carrier or cage or crate. Never carry the pet in your hand as he may become nervous and try to jump out. This may result in scratches for you or injury to the pet. Further while travelling in a vehicle, carrying the pet in your hand may sometimes be cause for accidents.
  • Allow your pet to explore and get accustomed to the new surroundings.
  • Allow your pet time and space if he goes into hiding at the new place. There is no cause of worry as he will take some time to adjust to the new environment.
  • Maintain the schedules as regards feeding,play time and walks. This will help the pet to be out of anxiety and keep him calm and content.
