What causes depression in cancer patients?
- Why is it that cancer patients are more ptone to depression?
- Research has shown that tumours produce chemicals which enhances negative mood swings. Further cancer is associated with depression. According to experts, this could be due to either a result of trauma of diagnosis, or possibly a side effect of chemotherapy. The third possibility is that 2 types of tumours induced molecules, one secreted by the immune system and another by the stress axis.
- Research on rats showed that the rats with tumours had increased levels of cytokines in their blood and in the hippo-campus, a portion of the brain that regulates emotion. The increase in cytokines are linked to depression.

How to avoid being lonely and be healthy?
When you are missing friends and family, blood pressure may soar and your immune system weakens. People with a good network of friends tend to live longer than those without friends. They are also less likely to fall victim to depression. However, loneliness is more common these days. We live longer, have fewer children and are more likely to move away from our home towns and often, we are no longer part of close-knit communities.
Health effects:
- Raises blood pressure: The most lonely people had blood pressure readings 30 points higher than the most sociable, making them 3 times more likely to get heart disease or have a stroke, as compared to those with normal blood pressure.
- Lowers immunity: High levels of the stress hormone cortisol is found to be more common in lonely people. It can suppress the ability to fight off infection.
- Interferes with sleep: Loneliness interferes with sleep and poor sleep is linked to obesity and depression.
- Encourages bad habits: The lonelier you are, the more likely you are to eat fatty, sugary foods and the less likely you are to exercise.
- Faster progression of alzheimer's: It is not known why loneliness affects Alzheimer's, but it is true that it could be the result of a lack of mental stimulation.
- Make the effort with family: Ask your family to stay in touch and try to plan regular meetings. If you have more spare time than them, accept that and you may have to do more of the running around. Meanwhile, stay in touch with them through phone calls, texts and e-mails.
- Go out of the house daily: Even if it is just to go to the shop, make an effort to go out. Smile at people and make conversation with someone you see regularly. Smiling not only releases feel good chemicals, but it also attracts people.
- Learn a new skill: Learning something new keeps your brain active. Sometimes, it could open up a whole new world.
- Exercise: Not only does regular exercise help prevent heart disease and chances of stroke. It can also slow the progression of Alzhelimer's.
- Join a group: If you choose something you are really interested in-whether it is walking, reading or music-you will instantly find that you are with like minded people.
- Be a volunteer: People who do voluntary work for 2 hours a week have lower depression rates and better health than those who don't.
- Get a pet: Owning a pet helps lower blood pressure, boost immunity and ease depression. Walking a dog every day is a great way to get out and meet people.

Are you unknowingly harming thechild?
One of the most important aspects a parent, especially a mother shares with her child is communication. It is important to be a friend to your child to get into their psyche. Be honest and straightforward with them. These would help improve the relationship with kids.
- Check yourself first: Challenge everyone in the family to observe their own honesty for one week. Keep track of your own lies, white or otherwise, exaggerations and pretenses. Then get together and talk about how easy it is to lapse into some form of dishonesty.
- Get together for dinner: Are you unknowingly harming your child? There is great importance in spending quality time during dinner hours.
- Family dinners: Only half of urban Indian families finds time to eat dinner together. Making family dinners a priority is not easy, but the long-term benefits are well worth the effort. How ever, it is important to keep it relaxed and pleasurable.
- Sitting down at the table: This is still one of the best ways for families to grow and stay connected.
- Money matters: Money gives people- both young and old, decision-making opportunities. You must teach your child how to spend money wisely. Educating; motivating and empowering children to become regular savers and investors will enable them to use their money more efficiently.

How to get back in shape?
You have always taken care of what goes into your child's tummy and have strived hard in the kitchen to make something healthy for your child. Now, it's your turn to get back into shape. It does not matter whether you are a working mom or one who stays at home, the need to stay fit is vital if you want to take good care of everybody in the family.
- At home: Are you a home maker? You might already be tired with house hold chores. To do exercise might not be top priority right now, but it is absolutely necessary to take time off to exercise in order to keep fit.
- Do it yourself: If you are a working mom, remember that sedentary work will not help you burn the calories. Try simple things like climbing the stairs and walking to the desk. Next time you ask the office helper to fetch you coffee or printouts, think again. A walk to the vending machine or the printer will surely add to your effort. Park your car a couple of blocks away and walk to the office. At home, don't call the maid to answer the door bell or fetch a glass of water. Do it yourself.
- Get professional help: Join a gym. You will find that experienced trainers will help you reduce the flab in a simple, yet effective way.
- Involve kids: You have always advised your child on the importance of exercise. It is time to follow it yourself. When you start to do exercise every day, your kids will follow you naturally.
- Take advantage of family: Negotiate some exercise time with your spouse. When you workout at the gym, your husband can take care of the kids and vice versa. If your in-laws or parents come over once or twice a week to spend time with the kids, you can utilize that time to head to the gym for a few hours.
- Get to know your neighbours: Strike a deal with your neighbours. Watch each other's kids while the other goes for a run. Walking is the best beat. Take a walk around your apartment or a nearby park. You can also walk together to keep each other motivated.
- Join your friends: Join a group of friends who exercise together-be it walking or working out at the gym. To perform exercise together will keep you motivated and chances of missing gym classes will be few and far between.
- For new moms: You are definitely sporting a post-pregnancy glow, but the pounds just don't seem to wear off. Stick to a diet plan and do not over eat. Simple exercise to improve posture, abdominal strengthening and breast-feeding will help you get back in shape. If you have a toddler, running after him certainly helps you burn the calories. Take him for a stroll in the park. Outdoors not only do good for your kid, but will benefit you as well. Remember, how you look depends on what you eat and your exercise regime. So make sure you give yourself as much importance as your family.

Meet this unforunate barbor.
One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about his bill and the barber replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week..' The cop is happy and leaves the shop.
The next morning when the barber goes to open up there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
Later that day, a college professor comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you.. I'm doing community service this week..' The professor is very happy and leaves the shop.
The next morning when the barber opens his shop, there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen different books, such as 'How to Improve Your Business' and 'Becoming More Successful.'
Then, a Member of Parliament comes in for a haircut , and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Member of Parliament is very happy and leaves the shop.
The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there are a dozen Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut..
And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the Members of Parliament.

American- Lady Liberty crown Is Back
- America's statue of Liberty will be opened to the public from July 4 announced Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
- The statue, whose crown was shuttered by the Bush administration after 9/11 will be reopened to the public again.
- The planned reopening followed a long security review that will lead to some safety fixes, including new, higher handrails for the winding, 168-step staircase.
- Only three parties of 10 will be allowed inside at once: one climbing up, one down and one in the crown, with each escorted by a National Park Service ranger.
- Eager visitors shouldn't delay - after the initial two-year opening, the crown will be closed again for a more extensive safety overhaul that could keep visitors out of the statue for another 24 months, starting in 2011.The Bush administration shut the statue after the Sept. 11 attacks, citing security concerns. Liberty's base, pedestal and observation deck were reopened in August 2004, but the crown remained closed - the only site in the National Park system off-limits since 9/11.
- Even an invitation was extended to Obama to become the first person up the steps on July 4.He's a tall guy and he may have to bend over as he goes up that double helix stairwell.

-
The rebels have been driven back into a small pocket of land on the north-eastern coast.

How to beat anxiety?
Students awaiting public exam results are a worried lot. Despite loads of entertainment, fun and haging out with friends, an increasing number of them still face post-exam blues. Here are some ways to keep the stress away.
Divert yourself:
- Are you a bookworm? It's time to catch up on the leisure reading you missed during the exams. Pick up a book that you always wanted to read. Reading will keep you engaged and will not let your thoughts wander.
- Alternately, try your hand at cooking or gardening. These activities can help you unwind and take your mind off the results for some time. Cooking and gardening require concentration and once you reap the fruits of your labour, you will automatically be happy.
- Always wanted to get rid of the junk in your room? What better time than the present? Throw away things that are unnecessary. It will definitely help you feel better. Spruce up your room by adding a piece of furniture or painting of your choice.
- Hanging out with friends will certainly up your spirits. Don't bring up the topic of your impending results, lest you start worrying again! Stick to topics other than college and admissions.
- Parents, friends and counsellors can form an effecient circle of supporters. Talking to a set of people you consider close will help reduce exam-related anxiety. Nobody can understand you better than your parents. Open up to them; They are sure to lend a ear:
- Start penning down your thoughts. If you are a net savvy person, start a blog and vent your feelings. Remember, writing alone can give you the pleasure of uninterrupted talking!
- Let's face it. The exams are over. You cannot change what you wrote months back. Convince yourself that overloading your mind with worries will not fetch you more marks.
- Be confident. A positive attitude will do you good. However, you are inviting trouble if you are over-confident. It is good to have some anxiety, but never underestimate yourself.
- Have alternatives. Browse the internet for opportunities in your chosen stream. Do not stick to one particular course. Pursuing a graduation in arts or science is not a sin!
- Finally, learn to come to terms with reality. Your results will not rule your life. There is so much to be discovered and the world is waiting for you.

The impatient Grandmaster, Viswanath Anand remenbers his mom on Mother's Day
- Viswanathan Anand has done what few sports persons in India have achieved. He has captured the hearts of millions of cricket crazy Indians by playing an excellent game of chess. Today the world's chess champion has only seconds, but his first and most important coach was his mother Susheela. 35 years ago, it was Susheela who taught him the moves.
- He was not restless, but he was certainly impatient, recalls Susheela of her early mentoring years. While playing chess, he would make a move but was unable to wait for the opponent to play his move. He wanted to make the second move immediately. Occasionally she used to tell him to study the board carefully but perhaps he could see more than she could.
- Sushila could never play competitive chess, but there was no nice little tribute from a chess lover some time back who said that she would easily become a Grandmaster herself, if she had taken the game seriously. The if is a big hypothectical uncertainity, she is happy playing her role as mother, mentor and guide to perfection.
- Her contribution to Anand's success is legendary and she found the perfect foil in her daughter-in-law Aruna to continue the same work that she had put in while defining the progress of her son.
- The mother and son share an easy relationship. Anand still talks of his mother as though he is a child roaming in the family garden, waiting for her to pamper him. She has always been there for me, he says. Those few words explain it all- The month spent on the road participating in tournaments, the treats that they enjoyed after every win. Anand hsd travelled all over India and abroad with his mother and became good friends. She used to give him an Archie comic and Tintin whenever he won. He remembered his playing in Delhi and said after every win he would run for an icecream or a kulfi.
- The initial years were very tough and they could have to stay with their relatives or friends whenever they were abroad. They used to save money and used to go out for a meal. But Anand's favourite homecooked food is Spinach sambar, lime rasam and potato curry.
- The adjectives that define a young Anand -active and impatient-contradict the very nature of the game that he is a master of. Sitting patiently over a board was not his forte. His impatience is not limited to chess alone. It was the same with tennis laughed Susheela, but he was always to easy to handle.
- Anand recalls instances when his mother would deprive him of his walkman when he became too difficult to handle.
- Born in Chennai on December 11, 1969 to Viswanathan and Susheela, Anand grew up with his older brother and sister in a household that encouraged extra-curricular activities. Carrom was the family's game of choice. Susheela said, he used to be good in carrom too and as an afterthought she added that he never gave her any problems when he was a child.
- Like any mother, eager to divulge those embarrassing childhood incidents their adult children would prefer buried in the family's skeletal cupboard, said Susheela when his father went to Zambia he brought home a big doll, and Anand played with it for a long time dayin and dayout.
- The Grandmaster narrated his own embarrassing experience while attempting to buy a sari for his mother with the pocket money he had saved. He was in Dubai at that time and he asked the ladies team what size sari he should buy for his mom he said sheepishly. Of course, they burst out laughingly. He added that his mother still wears that sari.
- Anand's mother Susheela recalled that her older siblings took care of him when he was a child. Even if she said something about Anand, they would react.
- The one life lesson that his mom ensured he incorporates into his daily life was to never forget one's mistakes. There was this time when he lost the game, and his mom said that he had been too careless and had to think about his mistakes when he lost the game. He said that he was so angry that he wrote down all his opponent's move as brilliant and his as questionable. Even today, when he sees that notebook, he remembers how angry he was. But he learned an invaluable lesson that day. Today, after every tournament,he writes down all his thoughts and mistakes. It helps him remember.
- The Anand's are a family that thrive on love, discipline and ability to enjoy life. She is a very patient mom. We share the need for a cool room, a warm blanket and a afternoon siesta, said Anand. He does not need that one day in the year to tell his mom he loves her. Every time he is with her, it is special and he feels 12 again.

Make a style and artistic statement with Terracotta accessories.
- Believe it or not, Terracotta has taken over people by storm. And no, I am not exaggerating. The humble hard-baked red clay, which was primarily used to make earthen pots, has now lent itself to various uses-be it fashion jewellery, artefacts or home decor. Moulded into various shapes, sizes and forms, terracotta adds an exotic touch to homes and imparts a warm, earthy tone to the surroundings.
- Terracotta is also making its mark in the fashion industry. Previously, the fame of terracotta jewellery was limited to rural and tribal communities, but now it has found its fashion with the urban population as well. Pieces of jewellery made from terracotta don't have a smooth finish. But, its uneven texture adds to the charm. Modern pieces are inspired from traditional designs, give an ethnic touch to any outfit. They are also available in bright colors. Necklaces and earrings made from terracotta are now hot favorites among college students.
- Fashion aside, when it comes to home decor, the most popular items are Feng Shui wind chimes, laughing Buddha statues and Chinese lanterns. Terracotta wind chimes produce a vibrating sound that is believed to bring good fortune and luck. Terracotta chimes are a complete sell-out, thanks to people's belief in vaasthu. Apart from that, fFeng Shui wind chimes, laughing Buddha statues and Chinese lanterns are also much in demand.
- It is friendly on the pocket too. Terracotta products are reasonably priced and fit well within the budget. They are also trendy and attractive. Terracotta pots are environment friendly and help retain water, thereby making it an effective option to grow plants.
- Terracotta is not only cost-effective, but can spruce up even the most basic of interiors. It also adds an ethnic touch to your ensemble in the form of rustic jewellery. So what are you waiting for ? Go ahead and make a style statement by laying your hands on one these earthen beauties.

A CHILD'S VIEW ON RETIREMENT!!!
After a Christmas break, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holidays. One small boy wrote the following:
We always used to spend Christmas with Grandpa and Grandma. They used to live here in a big brick home, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida. Now they live in a place with a lot of other retarded people. They all live in little tin boxes. They ride on big three-wheeled tricycles and they all wear nametags because they don't know who they are. They go to a big building called a wrecking hall; but if it was wrecked, they got it fixed because it's all right now. They play games and do exercises there, but they don't do them very good.
There is a swimming pool there. They go into it and just stand there with their hats on. I guess they don't know how to swim.
As you go into their park, there is a dollhouse with a little man sitting in it. He watches all day so they can't get out without him seeing them. When they can sneak out they go to the beach and pick up shells that they think are dollars.
My Grandma used to bake cookies and stuff, but I guess she forgot how. Nobody cooks, they just eat out. They eat the same thing every night, Early Birds. Some of the people are so retarded that they don't know how to cook at all, so my Grandma and Grandpa bring food into the wrecked hall and they call it "pot luck."
My Grandma says Grandpa worked hard all his life and earned his retardment. I wish they would move back up here, but I guess the little man in the dollhouse won't let them out.

WHATS'S IN A NAME!!!!!!!
One day little Tommy was walking with an older neighborhood kid named Billy Bob and he got curious.
“Billy Bob,” Tommy asked, “How come everyone calls you by your first name and your middle name instead of just Billy?”
“Well,” Billy Bob answered, “When I was little like you, I used to get in trouble a lot, and when I did my mom always called me by both names. I guess after a while, it just stuck.”
“Oh no!” Tommy cried. “I’d better straighten up then!”
“Why’s that?” Billy Bob asked.
“I don’t want to end up being called ‘you little sh#!’ for the rest of my life!”
How to boost your self-esteem?
The world today has become sadly, a very unhappy place to live in. Recession, tension at work, worries at home-just about anything can get you feeling down in the dumps and miserable about yourself. If you find yourself a victim of low self-esteem, then here are some ways to get back on track and feel good about yourself.
- Complement yourself: Instead of expecting your best friend to tell you that you look good in the new shirt, go ahead and complement yourself. It could be something as simple as telling yourself "I like the way that conversation went" or something like "I think I look nice today." Always make sure that the positive aspects are highlighted.
- Give yourself a make over: A make over is a great way to boost your self-esteem. Put on your best clothes, perfume and lipstick and you are ready to go. Make sure you get someone to click pictures of you looking in your best and whenever you feel down, remind yourself that you are goodlooking and life can be fun.
- Work out: Being physically fit can be a great emotional booster. Well, you don't have to look like John Abraham or Kareena Kapoor but you sure can shed those extra pounds that you have been wanting to since for ever. You will be great, look great and exude possitive energy.
- Change: Have something about you that you are not so fond of? It can be as simple as a habit that yiu dislike or some feature of your body. As far as your body feature goes, try to understand why you dislike it so much. Most of the time, the reason could be something shallow or superficial. This realisation will help you to boost your self-esteem. If you are unhappy about some habit of yourself then try your best to call it a day.
- Treat yourself: Set aside some quality time for yourself. For me time is not some thing that is to be spent in misery or wallowing in self pity, but to have fun. Catch up on that movie or play that you have heard so much about during the weekend or just walk your dog in the nearby park.
- Get away from people who put you down: These people simply cannot stand the fact that you are happy with life. Most likely, such people lead empty lives themselves. It would do wonders for yourself if you get away from these people.
- Be a good samaritan: What goes around, comes around. Do something good for someone else and you will be surprised at how good you feel at the end of it.

Visit Coonoor to get away from the scorching heat.
- I thought that the scorching heat would take its toll on me. But luckily, I took some time off to visit the princess-I am talking about Coonoor! The picturesque retreat with lush meadows, marigolds, sunflowers, tea estates, pines and tree ferns is a visual treat that left me yearning for more. The weather remains cool throughout the year in Coonoor, and I found it a welcome change from the blistering heat and the maddening crowd of the cities.
- I decided to explore the greens and landed at sim's park, an ideal destination for flora freaks. The 12 hectare park, developed partly in Japanese style, has a collection of over 1000 flora species that includes magnolia, camellia and ferns. The annual fruit and vegetable show held in Mayf is an added attraction.
- Some of the other tourist spots I decided to check out were the Dolphin's Nose, Lady Canning's seat and katary waterfalls. Since the Dolphin's Nose and The Lambs Rock were close by, I was able to visit both places at one go.
- And for the esoteric lot, there is always the Pasteur Institute engaged in the production of antirabies vaccine and pomological station, experimental fruit gardens for pomegranate and apricot to head to, to get your money's and brain's worth!
- Accomodation: The Gateway Hotel Coonoor, which is nestled in the mountains and drifting mist, is an excellent place to stay. Some of the other hotels you can check into are Vivek Tourist Home, Hotel Blue Hill and Hotel Velan. The price ranges between Rs 300 and 2000.
- How to get there: If you want to keep your journey short, take the aerial route. The nearest airport is Coimbatore. Coonoor is well connected by bus and train from Coimbatore. You can take the Nilagiri Express that leaves Chennai every night.
- From Mettupalayam, you can either take a cab upto Coonoor or a toy train. Go for the latter as the 3 to 4 hour journey from Mettupalayam will provide you with some of the most memorable experiences of your life.

Visit Yelagiri Hills this summer to beat the heat.
- Often known as poor man's Ooty, this picturesque and scenic place will have you lusting for more, what with it clean, pollution-free air, rose gardens, trekking spots and glistening lakes. A perfect place to visit to get away from the maddening hustle and bustle of the city. Once in Yelagiri, you will be thankful that you aren't spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding what to do. If you want to head out for a bit of exploring, then the Jalagamparai Waterfalls, Punganoor artificial lake-cum-park, Swamimalai and the Telescope House are about the only places available for some sight-seeing. Oh! And don't worry about the number of people inhabiting the place... Chances are you will see more monkeys than human beings in this quiet and serene town. Also, check out the new Nature park near the Kotai Vizha Thidal, which has been built especially to entertain tourists. It is a lovely 10-acre spread, replete with an artificial fall, an aquarium, musical fountain in the evenings and spell-binding aesthetics.
- Accommodation: Yelagiri has about 30 resorts which are only actually lodges, save a few. If you are on a tight budget, then head to Hotel Yelagiri, which charges about Rs 500 for a standard room. If you are willing to loosen your purse strings a little, then head to Leauroville Resort, which cost about Rs 1500 per room.
- How to get there: Well, I decided to be adventurous and ride pillion on a bullet. The easiest way to get there however would be to take a train from Chennai that stops at Jolarpet. Alternately, there are a number of buses that go directly to Yelagiri.
- You can take the Yelagiri Express, which runs between Chennai central and Jolarpet Junction. The first class ticket will cost you Rs 315 while for a second class seater, you will need to pay Rs 60. The cab ride should cost about Rs 450 from Jolarpet to Yelagiri.

Learn a foreign language and be assured to get a job
- Normally considered unconventional, students of foreign languages are now beating their counterparts in technical courses to jobs, thanks to a healthy demand for their skills. Students of French, German, Spanish and Japanese and other languages are waiting to be picked up for c in IT firms or as school teachers.
- Websites require employees who can compare product features in foreign languages using technical terms. IT companies that are based abroad but need local operators to man the site in the required language pay very well. As a lot of students work as high school teachers in theri second year, there are plenty of opportunities for them out of college. In fact they take up part time work at two or three schools.
- Placement is not an issue and it is a surprise that in times like these when proficiency in a foreign language can give candidates an edge over others, students are not jumping at the chance to enroll in such courses. In fact, the demand is such that many of the students get snapped up even before they complete the course.
- 5 year integrated course in French studies are available now in various universities to improve the quality of students. The integrated course has several components, including culture and translation studies completion of which will get the students certificates of merit at the end of each of the 5 years of study . This means that a student after 5 years will have the degree plus 5 certificates of merit when he or she approaches the companies for jobs.
- The number of candidates taking the Japanese language proficiency test had increased from less than 400 in 1999 to more than 2000 in 5 years. Now housewives who want to do translational work and software engineers who aim to act as a bridge and those who are looking to do literary, technical and drawing translation work are taking these tests.
- With several Japanese automobile giants setting up plants here, tourists coming from Japan for various reasons and new Japanese management concepts being introduced in Indian companies, a candidate proficient in the language has nothing to fear from the recession.

Valparai -The Cherapunji of South India
- My visit , the Cherapunji of the south, left me in awe of nature. Cosily perched in the Annamalai range , Valparai is a blissful 3,500 km above sea level on the Western Ghats. Surrounded by the unique grass forests, aptly named Green Hills, it gently envelopes you in its misty and mysterious aura. The Parambikulam, Aliyar , Nirar, Sholiyar dams, the Monkey falls and the various tea and coffee estates around Valparai were all interesting places that I visited . However, it was the elephant safari at the Indira Gandhi Wildlife sanctuary that made my trip. At Rs.300 for a 30-minute ride in the woods, it was a once-in-a lifetime experience . Also, we got to stay at one of the many tree houses built in the sanctuary. These tree houses are great to stay during the day, thanks to the scenic view of the lake . Valparai's location is perhaps one of its best attributes and its ready-to-help locals more than make up for its lack of facilities, making you feel at home straightway. But the crowing glory? Breathing in gallons of herb-scented clean air , as opposed to the poisonous carbon monoxide.
- Accommodation: Valparai has a few decent hotels to stay in. So, it's better you stay with someone you know or book accommodation at Annamalai's club or at one of the many guesthouses that dot the between Rs.500 and Rs.1000 for a day. However , if you are looking for luxury , you should head out to The Stanmore Bungalow, which is sprawling 7,500 square feet British structure. You could alternatively stay at Pollachi , the nearest town and drive up to Valparai for a truly out-of-the- world experience in the hills, provided you are ready to take on the 40 hairpins bends that you have to encounter to get there ?
- How to get there : The nearest town is Pollachi , some 64 kms away. The drive is pleasant and exotic,a true feast of greenery for your eyes. You can also catch a flight or a train to Coimbatore.
