How to deal with Fibromyalgia?

  • Muscle catches and pains are common among people of all age groups. But when it is persistent and hinders day to day activities it becomes a cause of worry. Fibromyalgia effects 30% of the population.
  • Fibromyalgia is mostly found in women. Among men only those who are engaged in excessive physical activities are affected by it. People among the age group of 20-35 years are most affected by it.
  • The symptoms are feeling tired even after a good night sleep, frequent head aches, feeling of numbness in the hands and feet, aches and pains all over the body particularly on the upper back between the shoulder blades and the neck.
  • Accidents, child birth, stress, faulty sleeping habits, overstraining of the muscles of the body over a period of time or the deficiency of serotomin in the central nervous system are the main causes of fibromyalgia.
  • Various treatments like oral muscle relaxant pills, pain releiving oinments, physiotherapy, heat or vibration treatment are administered to the patient suffering from fibromyalgia depending upon its severity.
  • Since fibromyalgia has no permanent cure and only the symptoms can be treated, here are some ways to cope with it.
  • Try effective yoga instead of going to the gym.
  • Swimming can be tried which relaxes the mind and the muscles and energises the body.
  • If you feel lazy or tired after waking up massage your body with scented oils and have a hot water bath to refresh yourself.
