The power of Gold.

  • Gold is mankind's highest valuable asset. Its luster makes it a favorite metal for crafting jewellery. Its high demand is due to its scarcity. It is estimated that all the gold mines throughout the world is only about 1,20,000MT, which can be transported by a single oil tanker. The value of this cargo would be around $1.5trillion.
  • Africa was home to ancient gold. The early mines were located in Ethiopia , from where the Egyptians obtained their supplies . It was gold that lured conquerors to the New World where the Incas referred to the precious metal as tears of the sun; it enticed traders to , India who came in quest of the legendary wealth of the region. In both these geographically distanced ancient cultures, gold served as an entry to omnipotence.
  • In India, gold was associated with power, wealth, religion and health. The metal was a symbol of the goddess Lakshmi and denoted prosperity. Gold plays an important role in each of the sacraments that mark a stage in an individual's journey through life, where it serves the purpose of protection against negative influences, attraction of good and deflection of evils. Gold welcomes a new-born into the world and transports the departed soul to the life hereafter.
  • According to Indian mythology, all creation ensued from Hiranyagarbha or the Golden Womb. Gold was equivalent to prana or the vital breath and therefore synonymous with life.Endowed with the properties of tejas or energy, varchas or brilliance and satyam or truth, the metal was regarded as exceeding all others in value, purity and finesse. It is infinite, indestructible and pure.It is because of this, that gold is particularly associated with Akshaya Tritiya throughout India.

Therefore, Akshaya Tritiya symbolises abundance , good fortune. It is considered the most auspicious day to bring Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth into one's home.
